Four

Issue Four of REFUELED is available. It has been an interesting creative ride. I am grateful for opportunities to meet some good people. For new friendships that have developed. For the platform to think and write and shoot outside of the box. For the opportunity to challenge myself and to defy conventions. Now signing off for a bit to regroup and focus on Stash Couture.

Monahans

This summer I discovered and photographed the Austin-based band Monahans for the upcoming issue of REFUELED magazine. 

They have a great Neil Young meets Centro-matic inspired sound. Get a taste and give Its Enough to Leave You a listen. My friend, Don Weir did a fantastic interview. Catch it when the issue drops this Sunday, November 1.

Get a Head

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday, I had to share these unique decor pieces from Trainspotters (UK). The style of the Communist-era anatomical wall chart (above) is beautiful and the unusual 19th century half-skeletal, half-muscular anatomical plaster bust (below) is most intriguing.

 

And finally, what room would be complete without the Bock Steger plaster plaques of a half-section human head circa 1880?

We have a few issues

Four issues to be exact. REFUELED Magazine is going to drop this weekend. My main contribution to this issue includes photos of Monahans (sneak peek tomorrow) and the cover photo and story on singer-songwriter, Amy Cook (above). 

If you are just tuning in, REFUELED is a FREE (yes, free) online magazine that an ever-evolving group of creatives contribute to on a twice-yearly basis. Since issue one, I have volunteered services as a features editor and photographer/stylist and occasional talent scout. So far I've contributed feature stories and photography on the following:

The magazine is the brainchild of Chris Brown who currently runs the following blogs: Refueled, Fuzz, and Choka, as well as Refueled Films and Refueled Sidewalk Surfboards. Chris is the publisher, creative director, bulldog, and editor-in-chief. No, I have no idea when or if the man sleeps. 

The publication has evolved quite a bit in the last two years and I hope you enjoy Issue 4.

Western Frieze

Bryan Schutmaat, Texas photographer. His work is big sky meets small town with a dash of Elk Lodge. 

There is an unsettled familiarity in his photography. And I get the strange sense that I've been there before though I know I have not.

Displacement

Darren Rigo is a Canadian artist, photographer living in one of my favorite North American cities, Toronto. 

He seeks to collaborate with the natural landscape to elevate the ordinary and explore the ways in which we are connected to nature.

Darren juxtaposed inexpensive, mass produced items such as balloons, tinfoil, sparklers, vinyl table cloths, smoke bombs, crêpe streamers, and christmas bulbs against these natural settings. Check out his full Displacement series and artist statement along with his other work.

Dark Vibe

This struck me as one of the more imaginative shoots I've seen lately. And perhaps is reflective of the slightly darker vibe in studio this week. Per Fashion Gone Rogue...
